In Praise of Deadline and Inner Fire

September 1, 2021

A solution, not the cure

Deadline! A word that may be pleasant to many people and none to the rest.

There is a very high possibility of experiencing deadlines as humankind if you have ever done a thing far sooner than one becomes a slacker.

“Goals are dreams with deadlines.”

Diana Scharf

Sitting by my own, checking on my notebook, and getting distracted thinking I don't follow deadlines–more importantly, I feel comfortable with that but what is going on? Asking myself where is my inner fire gone? Is this an ADHD symptom or am I a natural procrastinator?

Deadline passes after another and I feel nothing extreme happens. I eventually feel nothing embarrassing but a norm. That counts twice while I call for deadlines in the team as a cofounder. Feeling drained and numb around the deadline? Thinking where are my motivates and passions gone?

Well, I found it normal. Though the question what's the solution?

In The Praise of Deadline

There are plenty of epics and tasks on my task list, a few with deadlines. But there is something inside me calling giving me this hope I still got time and I have the skills and abilities to sort them out sharply, so keep hanging out on the net, flighting ideas, inconstant. Wondering why I'm doing this and mostly found myself:

  • "I'm afraid of doing it cause it is way too much;
  • "I'm bored and don't care."
  • "I feel lost."
  • "I feel stuck and exasperated."

Finding yourself more in a situation that is might be the result of a lack of interest. The 'Inner fire!'

If you’re reading this, you are probably spending your days working like me. Did it get your attention? Didn't it. Inner fire is our most important source of energy. Fuel for passion.

“One of the huge mistakes people make is that they try to force an interest on themselves. You don't choose your passion; your passion chooses you.”

Jeff Bezos

In other words, our whole life, including business and private life, depends on the strength of our inner fire. If you're tired and don't concentrate enough on your projects and deadlines, make sure your inner fire is extinguished.

You shine at work with challenging deadlines with a strong inner fire. Deadlines keep us in control to plan ahead and tackle one task after another upon the priorities and the importance. Therefore all progress depends on the inner fire.

Ignite Inner Fire

it's all inside of us and that is the beautify. In other words, rubbing the wooden sticks that reignite our inner flame is literally in our own hands. Debasish Mridha said it perfectly "Let your love be your guide. Let your courage be your driver, and let your passion be your road to enjoy this magnificent life to the fullest."

To start self-improvement and spark the inner flames I did few things listed below and it quite worked:

  • Every day, go for half an hour brisk walk while listening to my discover weekly list;
  • Outdoors run for 20 min every other day to soothe my soul with fresh air;
  • Meditate even as fast as a couple of minutes of breath-in n breath-out;
  • Schedule everything even a call to your mom (day or weekend);
  • Avoid talking about your dreams and find a way to make them real;
  • Play freely and laugh with abandon;
  • Cease self-limiting beliefs;
  • stop self-sabotaging habits;
  • Do what makes you feel free;

Believe me, once you get started living by your inner fire every moment, amazing doors open, and opportunities bloom. As a result, you'll be able to focus on one important thing at a time and shift once it's needed.

What could be better than one's life, motivation, and steps towards achieving desires? However, remember doing the above can only motivate and energize you temporarily; that's good but not enough! By repeating these tasks, you could finish a task prior to a deadline and start the next passionately and automatically. But what if our inner fire burns out again? Adding fuel to our inner fire will make life yours and others around you far better. Here are a few things you can do to keep your inner fire on all the time.

Connect with your Body

The first and most important factor affecting your mood and motivation is knowing and connecting with your body. We all know mind and body are linked and one affects another to an extent that the body reflects what is in our mind far sooner than the mind itself. Rewiring your body boosts inner peace. It simply wins you twice. Your favorite exercise, balanced diet, and time you spend nurturing your body will strengthen the bond between the mind and the body.

Connect to your Favorite Things and People

Connecting with the people we value or doing favorite things refills our hearts with excitement and motivation. Long loneliness may lead to a poisonous state of mind caused by continuous anger, hatred, revenge, and sorrow. Connect with people you care about and share your feelings, emotions, and experiences. As a result, you build a supportive and positive environment in which you can develop friendships.

Follow your Passions

One of the main reasons people extinguish their inner fire is an inability to balance their heart desires with what their brain commands. The brain and heart don't always move hand in hand; sometimes, your heart follows the things the brain finds irrational. But that is the whole idea, we are simply irrational creatures in nature. Be unique, listen to your inner voice, and stop overthinking. Don't be afraid to be yourself and figure out what you enjoy and what makes you happy. Find your true path by following your passions.

Be Micro-ambitious

Having confidence and believing in your abilities, uniqueness, and talent is the key to find your balance. Give credibility to your skills and abilities, as well as your interests and values. Never give up; enjoy the road, the falls.

Be Micro ambitious. Put the head down, work with pride and whatever is in front. No one knows where it might end up. Just be aware that the next worthy pursuit will probably appear in your periphery

Tim Minchin

Doing what you love has a price to pay and that is stress or anxiety in its extreme. Taking actions is stressful caused by uncertainty, expectations and changes. Remember this is normal. Try to take small steps every day to keep pace. Bernard Kelvin Clive says, "The good news is that at the Break of Dawn, you have the choice to either stay in bed and keep dreaming or wake up and pursue your dreams. For the only one who can make your dreams come true is you."

Keep your balance

Having deadlines is demanding, motivating but setting tight deadlines back to back is also hazardous and may burn you out! Do you know what happens? You may not be able to deliver any of them on time or get exhausted, which will significantly damage your work life.

The Importance of Hiring People with Inner Fire

Patrick Lencioni says about this: "The kind of people that all teams need are people who are humble, hungry, and smart: humble being a little ego, focusing more on their teammates than on themselves. Hungry, meaning they have a strong work ethic, are determined to get things done, and contribute any way they can. Smart, meaning not intellectually smart but inner personally smart."
